G Nako, born George Sixtus Mdemu in May 1983 in Arusha, Tanzania, is a distinguished rapper, stylist, and designer who has become a cornerstone of East Africa’s hip-hop scene. As the eldest of three siblings, G Nako’s journey began at Nangwa Technical School, where he and his friend Bunako founded the group Chronic Mob in 1998. By 2000, he pivoted to join the influential Nako 2 Nako (N2N) Soldiers, led by Lord Eyes, solidifying his presence in the Bongo Flava and Tanzanian hip-hop movements.
With a distinct style that fuses modern hip-hop beats and traditional African rhythms, G Nako’s music is celebrated for its sharp lyricism, introspective storytelling, and energetic delivery. Over more than two decades, he’s partnered with leading Tanzanian artists and expanded his musical reach with tracks like “Dip n’ Whine It,” “Shugga Daddy,” “Ma Ole,” and “Mfalme,” highlighting his dynamic range and genre-blending abilities.
Beyond music, G Nako is a co-founder of Weusi Kampuni, a renowned hip-hop collective in Tanzania that includes notable members like Joh Makini, Nikki wa Pili, and Lord Eyes. His influence extends into fashion and design, where his creative vision has stamped him as a cultural tastemaker. G Nako’s impact was recognized with Weusi’s win at the Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards for Best Music Group in 2012–2013.
