Cameroonian Makossa and Afropop icon Nono Flavy is back with a track that hits close to home: “Epouke Epouke,” nicknamed “Papa Yéyé.” True to her reputation for tackling social issues head-on, as she previously did with “Finis avec” on social media addiction, the artist takes aim here at irresponsible men who abandon their homes, leaving wives and children hungry, while playing the “president” in snack-bars and nightclubs. Co-written with Xavier Lagaf, the track pairs upbeat Makossa rhythms with sharp, satirical lyrics carried by Nono Flavy’s unmistakable voice. Directed by Chuzih, the video brings this social commentary to life with a mix of humor and bite.
