Atingwa Ghislaine, known to the public as Meshi, is part of a new generation of Cameroonian artists who have transformed personal wounds into a luminous artistic force. Originally from the Northwest Region of Cameroon and born in Yaoundé into a polygamous family with dozens of children, Meshi grew up in an environment where she had to learn early on to fight for her place in the world. This childhood, marked by social and economic challenges, forged in her an independent, ambitious, and deeply resilient personality. At a very young age, she discovered in music not only a refuge, but also a mission: to express human emotions with sincerity and give a voice to the voiceless.
From adolescence onward, Meshi developed her writing talents independently, composing poems that she gradually transformed into songs. Influenced by soul, R&B, Afropop, and the great African and international voices, she has built an elegant musical universe where gentleness, melancholy, and emotional power intertwine. Her ability to sing in both English and French quickly allowed her to reach a diverse audience in Cameroon and several other African countries. Her refined style and warm voice caught the attention of the Cameroonian label Zion Records, based in Bamenda, which decided to support her artistic rise.
Within Zion Records, Meshi rapidly became one of the most promising female figures on the Cameroonian urban music scene. Dubbed “the queen of Zion Records” by some media outlets, she released a string of hit songs such as “Pour La Vie,” “Aye,” “Marry Marry,” “Médecin,” and “Come For Me.” Her songs speak of love, loyalty, dreams, and personal growth with rare authenticity. Unlike many artists who prioritize commercial trends, Meshi focuses on genuine emotions and timeless melodies. This authenticity allows her to build a deep connection with her audience.
In 2021, she reached a significant milestone with the release of her album *For My Hand*, a project that revealed the full maturity of her artistic identity. This album subtly blends contemporary soul, Afropop, and modern African rhythms. Through sensitive and introspective tracks, Meshi explores themes of love, human relationships, and the quest for emotional stability. The project received a positive reception from fans of African urban music and helped expand her audience far beyond Cameroon.
But Meshi’s story takes on an even deeper dimension when she decides to redirect part of her career towards gospel music. After a period of spiritual transformation, the artist affirms that she has found a new mission in the Christian faith. This artistic rebirth gives rise to Meshi AG, a more spiritual and introspective version of the artist. In 2024, her gospel song “Baba” (Jesus na Baba) achieves significant success with African Christian audiences. Through this song filled with hope and gratitude, Meshi shares her personal journey, her struggles, and her relationship with God. This artistic evolution demonstrates her ability to reinvent herself without losing her emotional core.
Meshi’s strength also lies in her role as a role model for many young Cameroonian women. In a music industry still largely dominated by men, she has made her mark through her hard work, perseverance, and artistic elegance. Her journey inspires an entire generation of African female artists who see in her proof that it is possible to succeed without compromising one’s identity or convictions. Her music often carries a subtle yet powerful message: that of dignity, resilience, and self-belief.
Meshi’s discography perfectly illustrates her artistic evolution between urban music and spiritual inspiration. Her 2021 album, For My Hand, remains one of the most significant projects of her career. This album brings together several tracks blending R&B, soul, and Afropop with a strong emotional depth.
In 2023, she unveiled the Transformed project, a more personal and spiritual work that clearly signals her gospel direction. This project marks a new stage in her artistic and personal journey.
In 2024, Meshi continued this transformation with the EP Baba, featuring the gospel track Baba (Jesus na Baba), which quickly became popular within African Christian communities.
Among her best-known songs are Pour La Vie, Aye, Marry Marry, Come For Me featuring Locko, Rembourser with Salatiel, Medecin, Plans, Helep Me, and Nothing Else. These tracks demonstrate her musical versatility and her ability to navigate between different soundscapes while maintaining a strong artistic identity.
Beyond awards, Meshi’s true reward remains the emotional impact of her music on her audience. Her journey symbolizes perseverance, faith, and the ability to transform life’s difficulties into art capable of inspiring thousands of people across Africa. Today, Meshi represents an authentic, modern, and profoundly human female voice in the Cameroonian music scene.
